Most of us have been there before: trying to decide between a new car, a lease and a used car. How do folks make the decision? There are so many factors to keep in mind when making your purchasing decision. We’ve compiled a short list of pros and cons to hopefully help you with your car buying decision. Check it out!
Pro: Price
Unless you are lucky enough to come across one of the relatively few really good lease deals, you’ll likely get the most bang for your buck by buying a used car. For those working on a tighter budget, buying used gives you a wide variety of options that can fit within your budget, so you don’t have to stress about trying to stretch a little money a long way.
Con: Uncertainty
With a used car, you never know what might go wrong within the next six months, year or maybe two. Used cars almost always have something go wrong within the first two years. It’s just a question of how severe the repair will be? Are you willing to take the risk? The best you can do is inspect the car before you buy it, make sure nothing is visibly wrong and hope for the best. If you’re a handy person, you might be able to buy the auto parts and fix the car yourself, but for a person who doesn’t know much about cars, getting a hold of the auto parts isn’t going to do them very good.
Pro: Endless Variety
When you’re buying used, there are decades worth of makes and models you have to choose from, each with their own individual look and feel. If you are a fan of classic muscle cars, 2000’s sports cars or are specifically looking for a yellow Jeep, look hard enough and you will find what you’re looking for.
Con: Auto Parts Rarity
If you buy an older used car, there is a chance that its parts aren’t easily available anymore, potentially costing you more to fix it down the line. Do your research before buying any car and find out how much repairs often cost. That is going to be a big factor in your decision, so make sure do your homework when it comes to availability of auto parts for a vehicle.
That is just a brief rundown on some of the reasons to buy used and some of the things to be careful of. Is there anything we missed? Add on to our list by sharing your thoughts in the comments below!
